Okay guys. Listen up.

thisisallnow:

The 2008 US presidential election was strongly influenced by voters ages 18-30. With this year’s election day less than 3 weeks away, it’s time to realize that it’s again our time to speak up.

There are plenty of issues in this election that will influence people in our age group, including student loans, contraception, jobs, and the future of social security. The candidates have very different stances on these issues, and they WILL affect our future.

I cannot stress how important it is that we make our voices heard.

Maybe your single vote by itself won’t skew the results one way or another. But it WILL show up on polling statistics.

And you’ll affect people besides yourself and the candidates.

Instead of thinking about what your vote would or wouldn’t say, think about the message you’re sending by NOT voting…

  • When you share your decision not to vote, you’re influencing your friends, family, and people younger than you to consider that as an option. Your one decision has the power to affect many.
  • You’re telling people who fight for right to vote every day that what they’re fighting for is useless or insignificant. If you identify as female, you’re also throwing away what women like Susan B. Anthony and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel fought so hard for.
  • You’re telling government officials and politicians that they don’t need to address your needs because it doesn’t matter to you either way. The number of people in our age group who vote WILL be made public.

So get going. It takes minutes of your time.

  • Get informed. Look for nonpartisan or public organizations with unbiased information about the candidates, and keep up with current news. Watch the last presidential candidate debate on Monday, 10/22 at 9 pm EST.
  • If you’re not registered to vote, make sure it’s not too late, and then do so.
  • If you are registered, find your polling place or apply for your absentee ballot.
  • VOTE on November 6, and tell people you did so. You don’t have to tell them who you voted for.

You have a beautiful power as a citizen of this country. Make use of it.
